This Brian May preset is inspired by his tones from across his career with the band Queen. It features some of his go to FX, and an amp model that will put you firmly in his chiming sonic territory! For authenticity, it pairs amazingly well with his signature guitars, largely due to the pickups and phase switch wiring available in them. But it can work well with just about any guitar!
There are 4 snapshots that make use of some of the best parts of the signal chain, whether it’s a more standard sound, a solo ready tone, or something a little more intense with huge delays to have your ‘Brighton Rock’ moment! Alternatively, you can bypass FX individually in stomp mode!
The preset was put together using a Brian May Guitars Special LE, and tested on studio monitors and headphones. It was designed for use with the Helix Floor/LT as it uses a fair amount of DSP and both signal paths in the unit. It was made on firmware version 3.11 but should have no problems with later versions (it works fine on 3.15).
Rhythm – Brian’s go to sound with the iconic chorus and treble booster into a Vox AC30
Solo – A similar high gain tone, with added volume and ambience from a stereo delay.
BIG Delays – Obvious stereo repeats that you can get creative with, as Brian does on ‘Brighton Rock’ etc...
Harmony – Currently set to harmonize in A major, for some of those classic huge Queen guitar lines! Feel free to alter to whatever key you wish...
This preset is best used when connected to a PA console, audio interface or FRFR speaker as it has cab sim (IR) enabled. If you intend to use it with an amp and cabinet please disable the amp/cab block.
